With the ability to sleep in, we did just that. With a relaxed morning we were ready to take on the full day as it may come. We made our way to Venice Beach which was not half of what we expected. Now it was way cooler on one side but not the other. One side was full of touristy style shops and people throwing their "free" CDs at us to listen to. While the other side was full of local art, good food, and cleaner beach. We walked for a bit and decided it was time to grab some lunch.

We stopped for lunch at a place called Venice Ale House which hit quite the spot with mashed potatoes, which have been unbelievably hard to find on this westward journey.

We continued walking and admiring until we hit the span of space between Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier which was when we decided to head out. With some lust for nature and fresh air after being in Venice all day we headed to the Jim Morrison cave in Malibu. This is an oddly shaped cave with some graffiti that is rumored to be the place where Jim Morrison would sneak off to back in the 60's to write his songs.

After this short hike we were craving.... ICE CREAM, what a shock, right? We stopped for the sweet treat at the first frozen yogurt place in Malibu, which is called Malibu Yogurt and Ice Cream. (No pictures this time we gobbled it down too quick)
We made our way back to town with a decided stop at the Santa Monica pier just to see what all of the hype was about. The sunset wasn't really a show as the sky was rather overcast today but we did see about 50 little stingrays swimming under the pier, and a very talented street dancer. Guess you can't have it all, so we take what we get.

On to dinner, most places on the pier were seafood based which of course we don't eat so we ventured back closer to home where we found an all Veg place called Doomies.
Doomies is an all vegan/vegetarian restaurant full of the comfort food classics. I had a peanut butter "bacon" "burger", and Tristen had the fried "chicken" basket. We both left with satisfied tastebuds and full tummies. The West Coast may not be plentiful in mashed potatoes but their vegans are thriving.

We then headed home (where we are now) to turn in for the night. Goodnight Day 17!
